Renowned
as one of the most politically stable countries in the western
hemisphere, the Bahamas has enjoyed uninterrupted parliamentary
democracy since its introduction in 1729.
The
government gives consideration to citizenship, permanent residency,
and work permits for non-Bahamians
provided there is compliance with the immigration laws of the
Bahamas and policies of the government.
Persons
wishing to reside in the Bahamas on an annual basis may qualify
under one of four categories:
- Spouse or dependent
of a citizen of the Bahamas.

Spouse or dependent of a
permit holder.
- Independent economic resident.

Resident home owner, or
seasonal resident home owner.
Persons
may apply for permanent residence in any of the following categories,
provided they satisfy the statutory requirements of the Bahamas:
1.
As the spouse of a citizen
of the Bahamas, and in the case of a male, he must
have been married for not
less than five years.
2.
As an economic applicant, that is, one who seeks
to permanently reside in the Bahamas because of:
a. investment
- business or home.
b. established
roots through family ties.
